Read on for health and wellness resources
As a supervisor, you work hard to keep everyone on your crew safe. And safety is often firmly coupled with health. After all, if one of your workers’ eyesight is slowly failing, he may fail to see a hazard that’s headed his way. Or if someone can’t hear the backup alarm, he’s more likely to get himself in a dangerous location, like behind a forklift.
Depending on the type of insurance your workers have, accessing health care may be financially challenging. Here is a list of some resources in the U.S. that may help bridge the gap between health insurance and health care.
- General health: The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration offers an online search tool to help you find a medical clinic in your area:
hrsa.gov/ - Eye Exams: According to the CDC, more than 8 million Americans are going without eyeglasses that they need because they can’t afford them. The Lions Clubs International provides financial assistance to individuals for eye care through some of their local clubs. Some clubs have vision screenings for community members. You can find a Lions Club that’s local to you using this online tool:

Good health is a foundation for good safety. Remember to explain any other resources that are available through your company. Connecting your workers with these health resources can make a real difference in preventing injuries and keeping everyone in the shop safer. And it’s a very good idea to remind them of these resources from time to time. Put an appointment in your calendar to bring this idea up again in 3 or 4 months.
